OFFF BARCELONA 2012

OFFF Barcelona 2012 was over yesterday and, as always, it was full of best contemporary art and digital creativity, workshops and talks from the greatest artists like I Love Dust, Matias Corea (Behance), 1st Ave Machine, Bare Bones, Brosmind, Joshua Davis, Carlitos y Patricia, Catalina Estrada, The Guardian Interactive, Doubleyou, Jessica Hische… and many more.
The concept of this year has been the “Unknown Disorder“, defined as the obsession over imperceptible details and the quest for work perfection. Doce Collective (the OFFF Atelier students) have been the responsible for the campaign concept of this edition and the main titles have been created by Brosmind and Upperfirst.

I loved the Lunch Beat Movement, a project started two years ago in Stockholm by Molly Ränge who had the idea of creating a dance club at lunchtime. On an ordinary lunch break during the week, people meet at any specific place and enjoy the music while eating a sandwich.

FACE DANCERS. SAN MIGUEL PRIMAVERA SOUND 2012

I liked this San Miguel Primavera Sound’s video for people to “join the dance and the conversation” of the festival. You can find out who you’ll be dancing with at primaverasound.sanmiguel.es, a kind of social network in which you create a profile that you can personalise, choosing which concerts you are going to attend. This way, you can see all the people that are going to be at the same concerts as you and you’ll be able to contact whoever you want via facebook.

ELIZABETH WEINBERG

I loved the pictures of Elizabeth Weinberg, a photographer who works between Brooklyn and Los Angeles and who was selected as one of The Art Director’s Club’s Young Guns in 2011.

LA FEINA BEN FETA. ALEX TROCHUT

An interview with Alex Trochut which is part of the Estrella Damm’s advertising campaign: “La feina ben feta” (The job well done). I like the humility and simplicity of that great catalan illustrator and typographer.

What does “a well done job” mean to you?
To feel that you are fussing over that what you are doing all the time.

How is your perfect country?
Small, with beach, good weather and food…well, I am basically describing the country where I live in.

Do you like football?
I am starting to like it now. I didn’t appreciate it before. Now it is like watching a movie for me, I find it more exciting, maybe it is because I have never been into it.

In life, offense or defence?
I would say offense, at least in the professional field. In the personal life I would say defence.

Prestige or money?
Prestige. Because that means that your work is well done and that it enriches you.

What would you say to those who say that it isn’t worth trying?
Maybe they have not tried it in the right circumstances. But I think that it is always worth it.

What is your stamp?
To be geometric and fluent. To abstract terms and non-obvious reading.

You are a designer, less is more?
Not always, I believe in Milton Glaser’s sentence “less is not always more”. I prefer to say, “more is more”. But this is so relative.

What is for you a blank paper?
It is the beginning of everything and also the moment in which you do not really know how to go on,when you have to plan everything and make decisions.

Typography to write your name.
Superveloz, from Joan Trochut, my grandfather. You can have a global system with only one typography: You can create alphabets, illustrations and make a compact and coherent work with just one font.

In some way, you still continue with the family business.
Yes, sure, even if it has nothing to do with it because my grandfather was a printer and worked with plumb typography. But there is a special magnetism and I like to follow that steps.

What about your marks at school?
So bad…Until the institute it was ok, but then I lost my mind. But fortunately I got back on the right track.

A sentence that works for you.
If it doesn’t come out, keep trying.

365 INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES
